Alchemy’s Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) program is designed to provide individuals with more intensive therapy while allowing them to maintain their everyday life obligations. It is a more cost-effective alternative to inpatient treatment yet still provides some of the same core components of an inpatient program such as individual and group therapy, education about addiction, and relapse prevention. Our IOP enables a client in the early stages of recovery to establish a foundation for long-term recovery support in their local community right from the start of treatment.

Core Components of Our IOP Program

IOP is a 9-week program based on an individualized treatment plan typically consisting of:

  • Group sessions
  • Individual sessions
  • Family education, counseling, and resources
  • 12-step recovery and other recovery support groups
  • Structured peer support
  • Complete medical lab evaluation
  • Random urine drug screens
  • Integrated medical psychiatric care
  • Evaluation and management by fellowship-trained and board-certified doctors

The Benefits of Intensive Outpatient Treatment

The primary goal of IOP is to help individuals build better coping skills, prevent relapse, and achieve long-term sobriety. The treatment approach is tailored to the individual, incorporating cognitive-behavioral counseling and relapse prevention techniques. During treatment, individuals benefit from mentoring, life skills training, and social support groups. Treatment also focuses on addressing any underlying mental health or personality issues and helping individuals create a healthy lifestyle which supports recovery.

At the end of an Intensive Outpatient Treatment program, individuals should have more effective strategies in place to reduce their risk of relapse and become more self-sufficient in their recovery journey. By attending this type of program, individuals are able to develop better skills to help them manage cravings, create healthy relationships, and develop healthy hobbies. Ultimately, Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Addiction can help individuals and their families achieve the long-term goals of abstinence and peace.

Program Structure and Relapse Prevention

IOP operates 4 days per week for group sessions and other services are scheduled at the convenience of the client and counselor. Upon completion of IOP, weekly aftercare (1 hr groups) is recommended for clients for up to one year. Aftercare is recommended and strongly encouraged for all clients completing IOP to grow the day-to-day application of recovery principals and actions.

We also incorporate our Family RISE Program that encourages clients to bring a family member or other support person to learn about addiction.

Why Outpatient
Care Works

Outpatient care works for many reasons. One is that we know you have responsibilities that need you. Whether it is taking care of your family or going to work/school, we understand that your life doesn’t stop while you are getting help.

IOP is a structured program where clients (adults) receive information and instruction on how to lead a substance-free lifestyle and support to achieve and maintain abstinence. Clients live at home and travel to their local Alchemy location where they participate in treatment. The program provides assessment and primary treatment services and may be recommended for individuals who are currently enrolled in our Ambulatory Detoxification program, do not require detoxification, or individuals who may have completed a residential treatment program and are looking for additional support in their early recovery.
